Breast ptosis is defined by a sagging of the gland and a distension of the skin that surrounds it. The breast is in a too low position and more frequently “dishabited” in its upper part.
Ptosis may exist from the start but most often occurs after significant weight loss or during a pregnancy with breastfeeding.
The operation consists in reshaping the breast by acting on the skin envelope and on the glandular tissue. The gland is concentrated and placed in the right position. The skin envelope must then be adapted, which requires removing excess skin in order to ensure good hold and a beautiful shape for the new breast.
In the case of very severe ptosis, the scar has the shape of an inverted T with three components: periareolar around the areola between brown skin and white skin, vertical between the lower pole of the areola and the submammary fold, horizontal hidden in the submammary fold. The length of the horizontal scar is proportional to the extent of ptosis.
The procedure may be combined with breast augmentation or breast reduction.

General anaesthesia
1h30 to 2 hours depending on the case
Performed on an outpatient basis, the patient is discharged the same day after being monitored for a few hours.
Sometimes, a hospital stay of 24 hours may be indicated.
They vary according to the treatment method chosen. Periareolar, vertical and horizontal under the breast depending on the case.
Few post-operative pain (taking painkillers), edema and bruises. A bandage is put in place and should be changed regularly.
Recovery is rapid. 1 week to resume activities and at least 3 weeks for healing.

See moreIt is important to keep in mind that scars are an inherent aspect of surgery, and that scars may vary depending on the patient. The scars are permanent, but they wear off over time.
It is possible to use the Urgotouch laser immediately after surgery to promote the attenuation of scars.
The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia. However, when the treatment of ptosis is mild or moderate, local anesthesia may be proposed.
The duration of the operation varies between patients, but a breast lift requires an average of 1 to 2 hours.
In general, the procedure involves daytime outpatient hospitalization at the clinic. Depending on the degree of ptosis, an overnight stay in hospital may be offered.
The results are immediately visible, the breasts are raised and round. After a few months, they return to a natural and supple shape. The new shape of the breasts will then be appreciable about 6 months after the operation.
The final results are lasting, but they will not escape the effects of time: the breasts will be subject to both the force of gravity and the natural processes of aging. A certain degree of recidivism can be expected over time.
The procedure itself is minimally painful. Post-operative pain, discomfort, and swelling should be minimal.
As with all procedures, there are risks and complications can occur (bleeding, infection, disunity, scarring hazards, etc.). These are infrequent and can be taken care of quickly by the surgeon during post-operative checks. An information sheet from the French Society of Plastic Surgery will be given to you before the procedure.
My approach is initially to listen to patients in order to determine if their expectations are realistic and achievable and if the risk-benefit ratio is in favor of an intervention.
